Covid-19: GUK & RUK Show Why Training is Key in a Crisis

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, we saw our front of house services hit the most due to office closures and home working. Many sites were temporarily reduced to one receptionist. A Building Manager at one specific site, who formed part of the wider RUK team was a vulnerable individual and it was deemed as unsafe for her to carry out her normal duties on site. We encouraged her to practice home working to prevent any un-neccessary journeys on public transport.

However, the site still needed a physical management presence for the tenants coming into the office. RUK invest in training and believe in promoting from within, it was therefore, Georgia, the building’s receptionist who was given the opportunity to step up into the Building Manager’s role. She had already undertaken training in Health and Safety compliance, soft-service management and evaluations, as well as being shown how to complete budget reports and analysis – this was all done whist ensuring her reception duties were completed.

At GUK and RUK we continuously work on internal progression and training, ensuring that our staff members are given the support to excel and achieve their goals. Georgia used her previous training, which included an IOSH course, mentoring, being part of RUK’s buddy system and one to one training with the Building Manager to give her the ability and confidence to step up when required in these uncertain and turbulent times.

Our client was so impressed with how Georgia had handled the building, she has now been given a permanent promotion by RUK.

As a company we will continue to invest in all our people and their training, so they too can achieve their future goals and career aspirations.
